hazim1Sebagai pianis Indonesia, Hazim Suhadi memulai pelajaran pianonya di Yayasan Musik Jakarta (YMJ) dengan Yola Mathilde dan alm. Soetarno Soetikno. Ia menerima gelar B.A. dalam bidang studi Perancis dan Francophoni dan B.M. dalam bidang Piano Pertunjukan di Lawrence University (LU), Wisconsin, Amerika Serikat, dimana ia belajar di bawah bimbingan Catherine Kautsky, Luba Poliak, Dmitri Novgorodsky, dan Vadim Serebryany. Ia lalu melanjutkan mengejar gelar M.M. dalam bidang yang sama di University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) dengan beasiswa penuh dengan stipendium, dimana ia belajar di bawah bimbingan Christopher Taylor, Jessica Johnson, dan Martha Fisher.

Minatnya yang lain termasuk musik kamar dan mengiring, dimana ia menerima pelatihan dari Marian Hahn, David Perry, Nobuko Imai, Malcolm Bilson, Robert McDonald, Gilbert Kalish, Wendy Warner, dan Dale Duesing. Ia juga pernah menjadi pengiring opera dan pernah terlibat dalam beberapa produksi, termasuk “Candide” karya Leonard Bernstein, “L’étoile” karya Emmanuel Chabrier dan beberapa pilihan adegan opera.

Ia pernah menjadi anggota “Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapter” di UW-Madison untuk memajukan kesejahteraan dan pengembangan kesenian di komunitas local. Prestasinya termasuk menang dalam kompetisi “Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition”, kompetisi piano “UW-Madison Beethoven Piano Competition”, dua kali mendapatkan honorable mention di “UW-Madison Woodwing-Piano Duo Competition”, dan menjadi pemenang kompetisi “Wisconsin Public Radio’s Young Artists’ Competition” dengan “Concerto for Two Pianos” karya Francis Poulenc, yang kemudian disiarkan di radio.

Selain pertunjukan, ia juga memiliki cukup banyak pengalaman mengajar. Ia pernah mengajar sebagai asisten guru di UW-Madison dimana ia mengajar kelas piano dan kursus privat piano untuk mahasiswa dengan mayor non-piano. Ia juga pernah berkesempatan untuk mengajar di Foundry Academy, sebuah kamp menulis kreatif selama musim panas di Walnut, California, sebagai pemagang pendidikan. Ia juga direkomendasikan dan ditunjuk sebagai tutor bahasa Perancis dan teori musik di LU.

Sejak kembali dari AS, ia aktif mengajar di dua tempat: Jakarta Arts School dan Jakarta Conservatory of Music, serta tampil dan berkolaborasi dengan Resonanz Music School. Kini, Hazim menjabat sebagai Kepala Departemen Teori dan Sejarah Musik di Jakarta Conservatory of Music. Ia juga menjadi pianis pengiring pada acara “A Night at the Opera” dan “Potpourri” di Balai Resital Kertanegara, tampil bersama penyanyi mezzo-sopran Heny Janawati di acara “Matembang Bali” di Galeri Indonesia Kaya, dan ditampilkan di acara MetroTV “Idenesia”, dan berkolaborasi pula dengan penyanyi sopran Bernadeta Astari pada “Pesta Kemenangan Rakyat” di Salihara.

Hazim2An Indonesian pianist, Hazim Suhadi began his piano lessons at Yayasan Musik Jakarta (YMJ) with Yola Mathilde and with the late Soetarno Soetikno. He received his B.A in French and Francophone Studies and B.M in Piano Performance at Lawrence University (LU), Wisconsin, where he studied with Catherine Kautsky, Luba Poliak, Dmitri Novgorodsky, and Vadim Serebryany. He then continued to pursue his M.M. in Piano Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) with full scholarship and stipendium, where he studied with Christopher Taylor, Jessica Johnson, and Martha Fisher.

His other interests include chamber music and accompanying, where he received coaching from Marian Hahn, David Perry, Nobuko Imai, Malcolm Bilson, Robert McDonald, Gilbert Kalish, Wendy Warner, and Dale Duesing. He also served as an opera accompanist and was involved in several productions, including Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide”, Emmanuel Chabrier’s “L’étoile”, and select opera scenes.

He previously served as a board member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapter at UW-Madison to promote wellness and artistic development in the local community. He also served as a board member of Classical Revolution Madison Cooperative (CRM-C) to promote live classical music in non-traditional venues, such as cafés, pubs, and restaurants.

His accomplishments include his winning performance at the Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, UW-Madison Beethoven Piano Competition, twice honorable mentions at the UW-Madison Woodwind-Piano Duo Competition, and winner of the Wisconsin Public Radio’s Young Artists’ Competition with Poulenc’s “Concerto for Two Pianos”, which was then broadcast on the radio. 

In addition to performing, he also has considerable teaching experience. He served as a Teacher Assistant at UW-Madison where he taught class piano and private piano lessons to non-piano music majors. He also had the opportunity to teach at Foundry Academy, a creative writing summer camp in Walnut, California as an education intern. He was also recommended and appointed as a French and music theory tutor at LU.

Since returning from the States, he has been actively involved in teaching at both Jakarta Arts School and Jakarta Conservatory of Music, and in numerous collaborative performances with Resonanz Music School. He is now the Head of Department of Music Theory and History in Jakarta Conservatory of Music. He was the pianist at “A Night at the Opera” and “Potpourri” at Balai Resital Kertanegara, performed with mezzo-soprano Heny Janawati at “Matembang Bali” at Galeri Indonesia Kaya and was featured on MetroTV’s “Idenesia”, and collaborated with soprano Bernadeta Astari at “Pesta Kemenangan Rakyat” at Salihara.
